Steam Railway Gala - Friday 08 October 2010 to Sunday 10 October 2010

Page updated AUGUST 31st - fares added. Confirmation 45305 is expected to join the gala line up.

If you only come to one gala this year, make it this one. It’s a steam dream! Three days of really busy action between Loughborough and Leicester with guest engines working passenger, freight and postal trains. Up to eight engines in action!

This year is full of Eastern promise, with three guest locomotives which have never been to the railway before, BR built J72 number 69023, 2-6-0 LNER K4, 61994 The Great Marquess and the very elegant D49, sole surviving 'shire' class locomotive. From the home fleet the N2 and O4 will be in action. Darlington built BR Standard 2 will be in action - renumbered as Scottish engine '78054'. Black 5 45305 is expected to return to steam at this event.

Also featuring at the gala:

  • Driver for a tenner on Friday.
  • D49 and the K4 in charge of demonstration postal drops.
  • LNER Beavertail observation carriage on trains.
  • Enthusiast first class dining train on Friday night with special rates.
  • Saturday night late steam show at Quorn with commentary.
  • Steam Railway stand at Quorn.
  • Beer tent at Quorn.
  • Gala programmes included (while stocks last) with all runabout tickets.
