Leicestershire Area Group

2011

Friday 9th September – “Picture Postcard Railway Rambles” – To begin the new season, we welcome back Stephen Gay, who gives an illustrated presentation, in his own inimitable style, describing his railway themed travels around the country with his canine companion, Wrawby.

Friday 14th October – “On Parallel Lines.” - Former Sheffield footplateman, Ken Horan, returns to Quorn with a presentation of two complimentary halves, featuring black & white pictures of steam in the1960’s, followed by colour images in the preservation era of both steam on the main line, and on heritage lines. Unmissable.

Friday 11th November – “South Africa in the 60’s,70’s & 80’s” – Making his debut at Quorn, Ron White, the founder of “Colour-Rail”, shows the mainly British-built steam power, including double-headed Garratts, in spectacular action through superb scenery, during the heyday of S.A.R.

Friday 9th December – “Main Line Steam, 2011, on Video” - Karl Jauncey and Dave Richards,of “Preserved Steam on Video”, return again to present the very best of this years’ spectacular steam action on Britain’s main lines.

2012

Friday 13th January – “The North Wales Coast Line-Part 3” -David Scudamore presents the final part of his comprehensive trilogy describing the history and features of this important, and scenic, route of the Chester & Holyhead Railway.

Friday 10th February – “The Last Days of B.R. Steam” - Accomplished photographer, Derek Huntriss, presents an evening of pure nostalgia, with a selection of his own pictures of the everyday workings of steam hauled trains throughout Britain in the 1960’s.

Friday 9th March – “Steam in Scotland - Part 3” - Chris Banks continues his illustrated tour north of the border, starting from Inverness, and covering Highland and North British lines, including branches, to Aberdeen, then joining with the Caledonian to Dundee.

All meetings are held at St. Bartholomews Church Hall, Church Lane, Quorn, near Loughborough, commencing at 7.30pm, on the second Friday of the month, from September to March inclusive. Refreshments should be available during the interval. Admission is free, although a collection is held to defer costs. Any surplus is used to fund various projects on the G.C.R.
