The David Clarke Railway Trust
The David Clarke Railway Trust (Registered charity number 1104839) is an essential part of the Great Central Railway (GCR) success story. It tirelessly works to attract donations and grants which it can then use to help develop the railway.

From the overhaul of priceless locomotives, the restoration of historic carriages or even the construction of turntables and tearooms, it is transforming the GCR and inspiring future generations - but only with your help! Your support for major David Clarke Railway Trust appeals meant it could purchase the former Loughborough Goods Office, and kick started the restoration of the grade II listed station canopy.

The DCRT works with GCR plc and the membership club - the Friends of the Great Central Main Line, to protect the future of the railway. Thank you for your help.

If you can make a donation, please consider 'gift aiding' it. Gift aid is a scheme where the government will add 25% to your donation as long as you are a UK taxpayer. It costs you nothing. You tick a box and we do the legwork. It can make a huge difference to our fundraising. (For your donation to be eligible for gift aid you must pay an amount of UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax the charity reclaims on your donations, in the appropriate tax year.)

There are 4 ways you can help us...

1) DONATE ON LINE
We appreciate any donation. They can be made online instantly, using a credit or debit card and you can still add gift aid! To Donate, click the Donate button below

2) MAKE A ONE OFF DONATION IN PERSON OR BY POST
Download a donation form by clicking DCRTLeaflet, fill it in, and pop it in the post along with a cheque made payable to The David Clarke Railway Trust. The address is Lovatt House,3 Wharncliffe Road, Loughborough, LE11 1SL. Alternatively, bring your donation to the railway in person and hand it in at any booking office.

3) SET UP A STANDING ORDER
A standing order is a great way of giving a little every month (for example, £10) which over a year adds up to a very special donation. It’s easy to do. Download the donation form DCRTLeaflet, fill in the standing order section, pop it in the post to us at Lovatt House, 3 Wharncliffe Road, Loughborough, LE11 1SL and we’ll do the rest.

With option one, two or three, we can claim Gift Aid on your donation. If you are a UK taxpayer, the government will top up your donation by another 25%. You tick a box, we do all the work - and it costs you nothing extra. Please Gift Aid your donation if you can - it makes a huge difference to our fundraising.

4) LEAVE A LEGACY IN YOUR WILL
Leaving part or all of your estate to The David Clarke Railway Trust means we can continue our work and celebrate your passion for the cause after your death.  Among other major projects legacy donations helped to fund the development of double track on the GCR. Your gift doesn't have to be financial. Your shares in GCR plc can be transferred to DCRT or you may have a collection we can either display or sell to raise funds.

Here are some examples of types of gifts you can make in your will.

Residuary Bequest
A gift of the remainder of the estate after all other bequests have been made and debts cleared is called a residuary bequest.

Pecuniary Bequest
A gift of a fixed sum of money in your Will is called a pecuniary bequest. (Due to inflation the real value’ of pecuniary legacies decreases over time.)

Specific Bequest
A particular named item left as a gift in your Will is known as a specific bequest - for example, a painting or item of ‘railwayana’.

Contingent Bequest
A gift in your will that depends on something which may or may take place is known as a contingent bequest. For example: a bequest to a charity which applies only if other beneficiaries named in the Will die before the testator (person who made the will).

Important Notes about leaving a legacy:

  • A bequest to a charity is free from inheritance tax.
  • While you may wish to nominate a project, we respectfully prefer that bequests are left to the general fund, allowing us to use it as priorities and projects change.
  • Writing a will can be a complex legal process and we would always advise you to contact a solicitor. We also advise you to regularly update it as your personal circumstances change. Your solicitor will need to know The David Clarke Railway Trust’s registered charity number. It is 1104839
  • If you have previously left a bequest to the Main Line Steam Trust (the charity and membership organization which underpinned the GCR until 2006) we would ask you to please review your will and change the benefactor to “The David Clarke Railway Trust”.

If you would like to know more about leaving the DCRT a legacy, please contact the registered office: Lovatt House, 3   Wharncliffe Road, Loughborough, Leics, LE11 1SL
