D5830
was built by Brush as a 'type 2' in January 1962 and allocated to Darnall shed
in Sheffield.
Renumbered to 31297 in May 1974, and again to 31463 in February 1985 becoming
one of the last of the class to be fitted with electric heating. It was renumbered
yet again in May 1990 to 31563 when the heating was disconnected, and was allocated
for use on ballast trains.
The engine ended its service life at Toton depot near Nottingham, and following a period in store, it was moved to the GCR on the 30th January initially as a source of spares for sister, 31418. However it was found to be in better condition that its sister, so the owners decided to resotre this engine to full working order.
This locomotive is in full working order.
