August Passenger Trains 2020

Steam-hauled passenger trains return, departing from Quorn & Woodhouse.

We are delighted to be operating a passenger train service on every Saturday and Sunday during August 2020.

* All tickets for this event must be booked online in advance *

Tickets are now sold out for Sunday 30th August. We are also running a Diesel Railcar service on Bank Holiday 31st August 2020 from Rothley and Nunckley Hill stations (advance booking is required).

For details, please see our [Railcar Running Days] page.

For the first stage of our return to operation, trains will depart from Quorn & Woodhouse station (post code LE12 8AG).

Trains will then run to the end of the line at Leicester North before returning to Quorn & Woodhouse to complete the journey (Loughborough Central will not be visited during the journey). Tickets are for a single journey between Quorn & Woodhouse and Leicester North, and return, and are for a specific timed train during this event.

Please note that it will not be possible to board or alight from the train at Loughborough Central, Rothley, or Leicester North stations during this first stage.

What's on offer?

  • Steam-hauled train with lovingly restored compartment coaches.
  • Large car park available for passengers at Quorn & Woodhouse.
  • Exhibits display being planned in the station yard (more details soon).
  • Butler Henderson Café will be open for refreshments.
  • The Tin Shed Bar will be open.

Enjoy a journey through the Leicestershire countryside by steam train, from Quorn & Woodhouse to Leicester North and back in a reserved compartment for between one and six people.

  • Each order will be allocated a single compartment for their group.

  • The station platform will not be open, except for passengers with valid tickets when boarding and alighting.
  • An efficient queuing system has been arranged for boarding the train to preserve social distancing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are trains not running to/from Loughborough?

A: Trains will be cleaned while the train runs between Loughborough and Quorn & Woodhouse and the locomotive runs round to being the next journey. This will allow us to ensure that the train is clean when passengers begin their journey at Quorn & Woodhouse.

Q: Are face coverings required?

A: Yes - All passengers must wear face coverings on the station platform and when boarding the train. Passengers may remove face coverings when seated in their compartment, but they must be put on when leaving the compartment.

Q: Are seats reserved on the train?

A: Each order will be allocated to a private compartment. Between one and six tickets can be purchased per order.

Q: Will I have to pay for a full compartment?

A: We are selling individual tickets for between one and six people, with each order being allocated to a compartment. All passengers on each order must from from the same household or household "bubble" as defined by current government advice.
