Goods Galore Gala – 11th & 12th May 2019

Our goods-themed showcase of how Britain's railways moved goods around the country, becoming a lifeline to towns and villages ahead of the age of mass road transportation.

Expect to see up to 6 goods trains (5 goods train sets and 1 parcels train which also carries passengers) in service alongside a very frequent passenger service with a named express journey each day, shunting demonstrations, and turntable demonstrations.

We have 7 steam locomotives and 1 diesel loco in action all weekend including 8F 48305 and six other steam locomotives from the home fleet.

Goods Galore is a unique action-packed event with a large number of train movements only possible on GCR's double track. We're showcasing a large selection of goods vehicles alongside our usual passenger fleet to recreate a busy main line in the age of steam.

We're due to have seven steam locomotives and one diesel loco in action each day at Goods Galore:

Update 10th May 2019 - Unfortunately 6990 "Witherslack Hall" will be unavailable for Goods Galore and will be replaced by Ivatt Class 2 46521. The timetable itself is not affected other than the change of locomotive. We apologise for any disappointment that this may cause.

Arrowvale Belle Directors Saloon

Our Arrowvale Belle saloon will be attached to a passenger train (set B on the timetable) during the event. Enjoy a round-trip in this vehicle, normally reserved exclusively for private charters, for a small supplementary fare of £5 for a single journey between Loughborough and Leicester North or £7.50 for a round trip. The additional fare will include complimentary tea/coffee during the journey.

Return, single and short hop tickets will not be available. Return tickets may be purchased after 3 pm each day at the prices applicable on a normal operating weekend (£18 for adults, £9 children, etc.)

  1. Members of Friends of the FoGCML are entitled to Privilege fares upon production of membership card.
  2. Heritage Railway Association passes will NOT be valid at this event.
  3. Working members of other heritage railways with whom GCR has reciprocal arrangements for reduced fares will be eligible for Privilege fares upon production of valid membership cards and work permits.
  4. Same arrangements apply as in 1. above for holders of ex British Rail and Train Operating Company passes.
  5. Platform tickets at Loughborough and Quorn (including Quorn car park and yard) are priced at £7 – these can be offset against runabout tickets purchased for the Gala.


Heritage Bus Shuttle - Saturday 11th May only

There will be a free heritage bus shuttle from Loughborough Midland Station (East Midlands Trains) to Loughborough Central station on Saturday 11th May only at the following times:

From Loughborough Midland: 0850, 0950, 1040.

From Loughborough Central: 1600, 1650, 1740.

Buses leave from the bus exit lay-by at Loughborough Midland (not the bus shelters) and from the station entrance at Loughborough Central. The journey takes 10-12 minutes. In the afternoon, buses will, where possible, wait for GCR trains if they run late.

The shuttle bus runs courtesy of Leicester Transport Heritage Trust. It does not run on Sunday.



Car Parking:

Quorn & Woodhouse
Postcode: LE12 8AG
The field adjacent to Quorn & Woodhouse Station (over the bridge when travelling from A6 and Quorn village, on the left hand side towards Woodhouse) will be available. A charge of £3 per car per day will apply (no exceptions) for parking in the adjacent field; the station yard will not be available except for disabled (please refer below).

On-street parking in the immediate vicinity of Quorn & Woodhouse station is subject to Council-operated parking restrictions.

Entrance to the Gala at Quorn & Woodhouse Station will be via the stairs leading from the road bridge onto the platform (except for disabled).

On street parking is available but the surrounding roads will be busy. Many double yellow lines are in the area, so parking is increasingly scarce.

A small station car park is available. On-street parking is limited with council operated parking restrictions

Leicester North
Postcode: LE4 3BR.
There is limited car parking on the immediate approach to the station.


DISABLED PARKING: The station yard at Quorn will be available for blue badge holders and our less able-bodied visitors who do not have a blue badge. To reserve your space, please email with your name and vehicle registration details
