Mountsorrel Running Weekend – 24th & 25th March 2018

Steam-hauled Mountsorrel passenger trains are scheduled to run on Sat 24th & 25th March 2018.

Tickets can still be purchased on the day (cash only) subject to available capacity on the trains. 

A steam locomotive J94 68067 (pictured below during a test run for the event) is expected to haul trains at this event, with the train operating in "top-and-tail" formation with a diesel locomotive at the opposite end.

Trains depart from either Nunckley Hill, LE7 7SJ or Bond Lane (see directions below).

Buying your tickets:

Advance online booking is strongly recommended as capacity is limited and we are anticipating a lot of interest in the event. Tickets are not available from any of our main GCR booking offices at Loughborough/ Quorn/ Rothley/ Leicester. If you wish to purchase tickets on the day please bring cash as cards will not be accepted; please purchase your ticket via a Ticket Inspector onboard the trains.



There is a 10.30am start and a 3.45pm finish. There will be 8 round trips on Saturday and Sunday. Trains will call at Mountsorrel Halt and Nunckley Hill over the Branch Line, they will not stop at any of GCR's main stations.

From Nunckley Hill Station (Heritage Centre, Swithland Lane)

£6 Adult / £4 Child – return trip.
£8 Adult / £6 Child - all day ticket allowing multiple rides; this gives visitors the opportunity to explore the Heritage Centre and nature trail at Nunckley Hill (only assistance dogs are permitted here).
There are no Concessions (for over 65's) or Privilege tickets (for members of Friends of GC Main Line or any other concessionary fares schemes).
Child fares are available to children aged 2 to 15 inclusive; under 2's may travel free.

Directions to Bond Lane: Please put LE12 7AA into your satnav, but then when you "reach your destination" continue along Bond Lane for a further half mile until they see the station on the left side of the road.

GCR's standard runabout tickets/dining tickets are not valid on the Mountsorrel Branch for this event.



Main Line running

We are operating services as usual on the GCR main line during the weekend. Details can be found on out Timetables and Fares page.

70013 "Oliver Cromwell" and 9F 92214 are joined by diesel locomotive 37714 in action on the GCR main line.

All locomotives and attractions appear subject to availability, GCR reserve the right to cancel or amend any service.

Passengers are conveyed by the Company's trains in accordance with the Company's "Conditions of Carriage" (as shown on this website).

Our next running day

We are operating steam-hauled passenger trains this weekend 15th and 16th August 2020 (pre-booking is essential).

Our on-train dining services remain suspended at present, but we are reviewing this situation regularly and will be pleased to transfer existing bookings to a future date when dining services resume...
