Diesel Gala – 7th, 8th, 9th September 2018

Our September Diesel Gala runs for three days from 7th to 9th September.

We're delighted to announce that Warship D832 "Onslaught" will be one of the guest locomotives at the event, along with Deltic 55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier". In addition, up to 7 locos from the home fleet are due to feature.

Update 7th September 2018: We regret that due to a technical problem, Peak Type 4 D123 has been withdrawn from the Diesel Gala. An updated timetable with updated diagrams is available below. We apologise for any disappointment that this may cause.

Guest Locomotives

- Special guest Class 42 Warship D832 "Onslaught" appear courtesy of Bury Hydraulic Group and East Lancashire Railway.

- Special guess Deltic 55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier" appearing courtesy of the Deltic Preservation Society.

 

Home Fleet Locomotives

Joining our special guests are seven locos from our home fleet.

Class 47 1705 Class 45 D123 - Withdrawn
Class 37 37714 (Saturday and Sunday) Class 33 D6535 (Saturday and Sunday)
Class 31 D5830 (Saturday and Sunday) Class 25 D5185 (Saturday and Sunday)
Class 08 08907 (Friday only).

Class 66 update 4th September 2018: We regret that the gala will no longer feature a Class 66 as previously advertised. GB Railfreight have apologised for any disappointment caused and regret that despite exploring every other option including providing a loco of another class, no locomotives are available due to existing operational commitments on the national network. We hope to work with GBRf again in the future and look forward to bringing another of their main line locos to GCR for a future event.

Goods trains (Friday)

By popular request we will be operating goods trains on Friday.

 

Travelling Post Office (TPO) demonstrations

Travelling Post Office demonstrations will take place at Quorn and Woodhouse station on Saturday and Sunday. Please see the timetable for details.

 

Mountsorrel Branch running

We are expecting to run from our main line on to the Mountsorrel Branch on the Saturday. Please see the timetable for details.

Real Ale

A real ale bar will be available in the General Waiting Room at Loughborough Central station from 11:00 am. Cask beers on offer (all at just £3.20 per pint), plus ciders.

The breweries featured will include: Stockport,  Heritage,  King Clipstone,   Atomic,  Isle Of Purbeck, HB Clarke, Full Mash,  Scribblers,   Nottingham.

Cask beers will also be available in the Griddle Car.

 

New for 2018

Friday night only -our very first Sulzer Spice Night - you have the choice of:-

Chicken Tikka Masala
or
Chicken Korma
Or
Chickpea, sweet potato and spinach curry

Served with rice and garlic and coriander nann.

£7.50

Orders can be taken throughout the day and served on the 1900 departure from Loughborough, order at the griddle as you would normally.

Budget late afternoon/evening fare announcned.

We're pleased to announce a reduced Adult fare of £12 will be available after 4pm on Friday and Saturday. This provides excellent value for visitors who wish to join us for the late afternoon and evening trains only.

 

Under 5s: Free of charge

No short hop tickets available between stations.

Platform tickets at Loughborough Central are available for £7 at this event. These are not valid on trains.

*Normal discounts apply for members of Friends of Great Central Main Line to buy Privilege rate tickets (£14 adult, £8 child) upon production of membership card. *HRA passes will not be valid at this event. *Working members of other heritage railways with whom GCR has reciprocal arrangements for reduced fares, will be eligible for Privilege fares upon production of valid working membership cards. *Same arrangements apply as above for holders of ex British Rail and Train Operating Company passes.

Loughborough Loco Shed

Do please note that the pathway from the North end of the station platform up to the Loco Shed will be closed during this Gala. We apologise for this - further information is in pathway closure
