Filming at the GCR

The Great Central Railway is the filmmaker’s location of choice. Whether your project is large or small, is full of railway action or just a station scene, we have the facilities and expertise to ensure it is a success. Our double track network (including turntable) and large stations mean we can bring the ‘main line’ feel to any shoot, plus our new branch line gives you the option of something that looks a little more rural. We have an extensive collection of steam or diesel locomotives, passenger carriages, freight wagons – even a post office train.  We’re just ten minutes from junction 23 of the M1 enjoying easy access from right across the country. We have all the expertise and facilities to help you capture the perfect take.

Our filmography speaks for itself and we’d be delighted to help you. Please call us to arrange a visit to the railway on 01509 632 315 or email us at filming@gcrailway.co.uk

Production Notes...

The Great Central Railway operates every weekend of the year and Bank Holidays.  At certain times of the year we stage major public events. In addition, we run trains mid week from May to September. Depending on the size and scale of your production, the railway can be closed to the public to facilitate your work in a confidential environment that you control.

We can provide any technical and historical advice you require. We’re also able to advise on safety matters if you require something out of the ordinary. If you need a particular style of locomotive or carriages not in our fleet, they can be hired from other railways subject to availability.

We can also provide location managers with addresses for hotels, local services etc, and we can provide an effective liaison with the police, local authorities and any landowners your work may affect. We can arrange parking or site rental for a production base.
