Emergency Project Appeal

£354,000 appeal to support vital projects impacted by the Coronavirus crisis.

The coronavirus crisis has affected us all, and the Great Central is no exception due to an extended period without income. Having tried very hard to manage and control all expenses throughout the period of closure, we now feel the need to launch an EMERGENCY FUNDING APPEAL

With our railway taking careful steps towards returning, and with key and vital projects already planned and commenced, we now lack vital funding to complete these due to the effects of the virus crisis.

We are seeking your help therefore to raise £354,000 of emergency funding to complete these essential projects.

About the projects

Bridge 341 replacement - Now completed!

Bridge 341 stands just north of Quorn & Woodhouse station and carries the Great Central line across a farm track. The bridge deck is now over 120 years old and is badly corroded, and now requires replacement. Although it is safe to run trains across the bridge, a temporary speed restriction of 10mph has been in effect for some time to help preserve the structure.

Update - September 2020 - The deck of Bridge 341 has now been replaced and train services have resumed. Thank you for your support with this first of our important projects.... we still need your help to continue to other vital projects...

Fencing reinstatement

A thorough review of our fencing has taken place, and a significant amount along the line needs to be renewed or reinstated. Fencing along our borders not only protects our property, but also discourages trespass on the line itself.

Quorn yard remodelling

Significant works are required at Quorn & Woodhouse station including work on the tree line which borders the station. The car park requires resurfacing, and a major project to convert the former Good Shed to a classroom and education centre has begun.

Donations to the Emergency Project Appeal can be made online.

Donations made online to the Emergency Project Appeal are being processed by the supporting charity of Great Central Railway, The David Clarke Railway Trust (registered charity number 1104839).

We are very grateful for your superb support, and look forward to continuing to develop and maintain the railway with these important projects.

Our next running day

We're running passenger trains from Quorn & Woodhouse station on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week for our Half Term Fun event.

Advance booking is essential.
