Do you enjoy history? Do you like gardening or practical, hands-on work? Are you happy painting, maintaining buildings, or helping things look their best? Most of all—do you enjoy meeting people and being part of a friendly team?
If you answered “yes” to any of these, please read on.
We’re simply looking for people with a bit of time to spare who would like to get involved with a small, welcoming team at Leicester North Station.
Formerly known as Belgrave & Birstall, Leicester North is the southern terminus of the Great Central Railway, a heritage railway running between Loughborough and Leicester. It’s an award-winning local attraction—and one that many people in the area still don’t realise is on their doorstep.
You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to volunteer here. What really matters is that you enjoy working with people and being part of a team.
Our volunteers help in many different ways, including:
- Caring for the grass and gardens
- Helping to maintain and paint the buildings
- Serving refreshments in the Tail-Light Tea Room
- Meeting and greeting visitors on the platform
Whether you’re behind the scenes or front-of-house, everything we do is about creating a warm, welcoming experience for our visitors.
You don’t need special qualifications, and you don’t have to commit large amounts of time. Whether you can help occasionally or more regularly, every contribution makes a difference—and you’ll be joining a friendly group of people who enjoy working together.
If this has caught your attention and you’d like to find out more, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us via charlie.corcoran@gcrailway.co.uk or come along on any Saturday, meet some of the team, and see what we do—you might be surprised how much you enjoy it.
