Work is underway to upgrade Leicester North station following the successful Loving Leicester Appeal.
Please mind the dust at Leicester North for the next few weeks. As refurbishment works get underway you’ll see a little disruption at our southern terminus, but it will be worth it.
Contractors are currently working to replace all the translucent panels in the canopy, alongside the station building. The old panels have been removed, the failed sealant is being stripped and then everything will be replaced to give a lighter – and crucially dryer experience on the platform for passengers.
The canopy will also be painted soon, as will the fences on the platform, the buffer stops and ultimately the two metal containers which provide essential storage for our team will be placed in the embankment.
Our aim to provide a better environment for our visitors and volunteers. It’s been made possible by a successful £30,000 fund raising appeal last Summer. The ‘Loving Leicester North’ campaign was supported by so many people and we’d like to say thank you again. The improvements are well worth it and couldn’t be taking place without you.
If you’re arriving at the station you’ll see fences and scaffolding but they should only be in place for a couple of weeks. It may mean some facilities including toilets are temporarily unavailable. Thank you for bearing with us.
