Eastern Weekend with K1 62005 – 15th & 16th February 2020

We're delighted to offer another opportunity to travel behind the special guest from our Winter Steam Gala K1 62005 before the popular loco returns to the main line, and the very popular 1903 North Eastern Railcar Electric Railcar will also be in service. Normal fares apply this weekend 15th and 16th February 2020.

Update Sunday 16th February 2020: Trains running between Loughborough and Rothley only due to flooding.

Please note that trains are operating between Loughborough and Rothley only today Sunday 16th February due to flooding. All train services will run as close to the timetable as possible from Loughborough Central, calling at Quorn & Woodhouse and Rothley. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these circumstances which are due to the weather conditions.

A second steam locomotive will be in service and can be seen passing by on Drive A Locomotive Experience and dining trains duties, and a diesel railcar will also be in operation.

Enjoy a journey through the beautiful Leicestershire countryside with us. Details of our timetable and fares are listed below. Trains can be boarded at any of our four stations, with our best value ticket being our "runabout" which allows unlimited travel on our trains on the day of purchase.

Special guest K1 62005

Sole-surviving member of the K1 class 62005 was an extremely popular visitor at our Winter Steam Gala in January and appears at GCR courtesy of the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group. After this weekend 62005 will be returning to the main line, where it is expected to spend the summer season working in north west Scotland on the West Highland Line between Fort William and Mallaig.

1903 North Eastern Railway Electric Railcar

We're delighted to announce that the popular 1903 North Eastern Railway Electric Railcar number 3170 will be operating three round-trips between Loughborough and Leicester North both days this weekend. The recently restored railcar uses the vehicles original wooden body, with a modern diesel engine and control systems which provides a truly unique and impressive restoration. The railcar appears courtesy of The N.E.R. 1903 Electric Railcar Trust.

Note regarding railcar capacity.

The railcar proved to be extremely popular at our Winter Steam Gala and we would like to offer visitors an opportunity to travel the full length of the line on board this magnificent vehicle. Please note that the railcar has limited capacity and passengers travel on a first come, first served basis. Passenger numbers at this time of year are generally less than in high season, so we feel that this is an ideal opportunity to allow visitors to enjoy the railcar between Loughborough and Leicester North. We thank you in advance for your understanding if the railcar proves to be very popular this weekend and hope that you enjoy travelling on board.

On-train refreshments.

Look out for the Griddle Car on the timetable below (shown with a plate and fork symbol) for a range of hot meals and snacks on our main steam service.

Timetable for Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2020

We're running an earlier first departure this weekend from Loughborough Central offering an additional trip with 62005. Trains marked "Railcar" will be operated by North Eastern Railcar Railcar 3170.

The plate a fork symbol indicates a Griddle Car is operating on this steam-hauled train.
