Real Ale Trains 2021

Enjoy an early evening fish and chip supper alongside a selection of 10 real ales and 2 ciders on board a steam train during two round trips of the Great Central Railway on our Fish, Chip and Real Ale Train.

Our next Real Ale Train departs from Loughborough Central Station at 6.30pm on Saturday 17th July.


What's Included

Your ticket includes two return trips in the evening through the beautiful Charnwood countryside. Fish and Chips are available to book on this train for an additional £7.50


How much?

Tickets are only £18* per person our standard day rover fair.


Beers and Ciders 

We are expecting 10 Beers and 2 Ciders from a variety of brewers. 

Beers are usually priced at £3.40 per pint or £1.70 per 1/2 pint

Ciders are usually priced at £4.00 per pint or £2.00 per 1/2 pint


A selection of soft drinks, wines, bottled lagers, gin and whiskey is also available on the train.

Due to limited seats on this train, tickets are available for advance internet booking only. Please choose your date carefully when in the ticket system.

There are no concessionary fares. The train departs Loughborough Central at 18.30 and makes two trips to Leicester North, before returning to Loughborough Central at approx. 21.45.

A selection of real ale, other alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are available to purchase on board during your journey.

Less able-bodied passengers, due to the configuration of the coaches, can only be accommodated if they are not confined to a wheelchair.

Passengers are conveyed by the Company's trains in accordance with the Company's "Conditions of Carriage" (as shown on this website). All train services, locomotives, exhibits and other attractions appear subject to availability and are subject to change without prior notice.

Due to how our fish and chips are cooked, unfortunately we are unable to provide a gluten-free alternative.

Our next running day

Passenger trains have now returned to the GCR, running every Saturday and Sunday, and on selected weekdays.

All four stations are due to reopen from Saturday 26th June 2021, with tickets available on the day from Booking Offices.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the railway as we progressively return to normal operation, as the national situation improves.
