Half Term Fun/Midweek running – Tue 20th to Thu 22nd October 2020

Half Term Fun begins at the Great Central Railway, Quorn & Woodhouse Station, Woodhouse Road, Quorn, LE12 8AG

A chance to enjoy a journey through the Leicester countryside by steam train, with extra attractions for families at Quorn & Woodhouse station.

Travel in your own private compartment, inside one of our beautifully restored carriages, while British Railways Standard Class 2 78018 hauls your train.

Quorn Station Yard will be open from 9.00am each morning allowing plenty of time for parking up ready for the first train at 9.35am. The traders and the fun fair will be open from 10.00am.

We have a daily prize of a ticket for our famous Santa Express trains for a family of 6 for the best fancy dress costume whether a Villain, Superhero, Princess or Pirate. Travel the trains through the Leicestershire Countryside and then enjoy the Mini Fun Fair, the traders in our Food & Drinks and Crafts Village.

Judging will take place throughout the day with the winner notified on the day.

All train services will be steam hauled and you will be allocated your own compartment for the duration of the trip. Please remember that you must wear a face mask from entering the platform, boarding the train and when disembarking. Whilst you are seated in your compartment, you can take your face masks off.

Our on site Butler Henderson Cafe will be open throughout as well as the Tin Shed and Marquee.

On board, there is a trolley service for light refreshments, please wait for the stewards to come and see you.

Entry to the village is free with a Half Term Fun travel ticket, only £30.00 for 2 Adults and up to 3 Children.

The train journey

Trains will depart from Quorn & Woodhouse station (post code LE12 8AG).

Trains will then run to the end of the line at Leicester North before returning to Quorn & Woodhouse to complete the journey (Loughborough Central will not be visited during the journey). Tickets are for a single journey between Quorn & Woodhouse and Leicester North, and return, and are for a specific timed train during this event.

Please note that it will not be possible to board or alight from the train at Loughborough Central, Rothley, or Leicester North stations during this event.

 


Fares

Tickets are being sold individually for groups of 1-6 people, with each order being allocated a private compartment on the train. (All passengers in each compartment must be from family groups or support 'bubbles' as defined by government advice). Tickets are for a single journey between Quorn & Woodhouse and Leicester North, and return. Tickets are for a specific timed train during this event.

Steam: 1:50pm from Quorn & Woodhouse (returning at 2:45pm)

Steam: 3:30pm from Quorn & Woodhouse (returning at 4:25pm)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are trains not running to/from Loughborough?

A: Trains will be cleaned while the train runs between Loughborough and Quorn & Woodhouse and the locomotive runs round to being the next journey. This will allow us to ensure that the train is clean when passengers begin their journey at Quorn & Woodhouse.

 

Q: Are face coverings required?

A: Yes - All passengers must wear face coverings on the station platform and when boarding the train. Passengers may remove face coverings when seated in their compartment, but they must be put on when leaving the compartment.

 

Q: Are seats reserved on the train?

A: Each order will be allocated to a private compartment. Between one and six tickets can be purchased per order.

 

Q: Will I have to pay for a full compartment?

A: We are selling individual tickets for between one and six people, with each order being allocated to a compartment. All passengers on each order must from from the same household or household "bubble" as defined by current government advice.

 

 


All locomotives and attractions appear subject to availability, GCR reserve the right to cancel or amend any service.
