Railcar Running Days – Saturdays and Sundays 5th-13th September 2020

Departures from Rothley and Nunckley Hill - A diesel railcar service with a difference.

On Saturdays and Sundays in early September 2020 (5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th) we will be running a diesel railcar service over the southern end of the railway, with trains departing from Rothley and Nunckley Hill on the Mountsorrel Branch.

Pre booking is required.

Important bridge works are taking place north of Quorn & Woodhouse from 31st August to 18th September, so our train services will operate at the southern end of the line at weekends while this work takes place.

Two Metro Cammell diesel railcars will be operating with four departures from both Rothley and Nunckley Hill on each day.

Please note that there are no dogs allowed at the Mountsorrel and Rothley Community Heritage Centre, and therefore we regret that there are no dogs allowed on trains at this event.

The journey

Trains departing from Rothley will proceed to Leicester North, before heading northbound, passing through Rothley Station to Swithland Sidings. The train will then cross to the opposite line and along the Mountsorrel Branch to Nunckley Hill, where the train will pause before returning to Rothley.

Trains departing from Nunckley Hill will proceed along the Mountsorrel Branch to Swithland Sidings, and through Rothley Station to Leicester North. The train will then proceed to Rothley and pause there, before returning to Nunckley Hill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are trains not running to/from Quorn or Loughborough?

A: A bridge (number 341) which carries the railway across a farm crossing is being replaced in early September. Work begins on August 31st and continues until September 18th. While the work is taking place, we are running trains on the southern portion of our line to Leicester North and along the Mountsorrel Branch via Rothley.

Q: Are face coverings required?

A: Yes - All passengers must wear face coverings on the station platform and when on the train. The diesel railcars are open vehicles, and although we have reduced the available capacity to allow for social distancing, face coverings are also required.

Q: Are seats reserved on the train?

A: Seats are not reserved on the diesel railcar, but stewards will be on duty to show each party to suitable seats to allow for social distancing.
