Although they were later replaced by diesel electric locos, preserved examples have remained very popular on heritage railways." It is worthy of note that many common diesel multiple units in service today on the national network use hydraulic transmissions, and serve as proof of the technology. - Photo © Stephen Bottrill.

"On the 76th anniversary of D-Day we particularly remember those of 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the American 82nd Airborne Division who arrived at Quorn & Woodhouse station on the 14th January 1944. Storing their equipment in the station yard, for the next four and a half months they were based at Camp Quorn where they trained and socialised around the Charnwood Hills before leaving the village bound for Normandy in June. For many, their departure from Quorn & Woodhouse prior to their drop over France would be the start of their final journey…" - Photo © Scott Mattock.
