No.22

Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST No.22
Austerity No.22 visited the GCR from the South Devon Railway in the early part of 2012 for a short stay. It left the GCR in April, 2012. The locomotive was in the red livery of the United Steel Company.

The locomotive carries false building plates - Hunslet 3844/1956 whereas its correct number is 3946/1956.

It was built for the National Coal Borad West Wales Area spending most of its working life at Graig Methyr Colliery, Pontardulais. While there it carried no name or fleet number and was withdrawn in the mid 1970s. Before being purchased for preservation at Scunthorpe it had spent some time at the Cofn Coed Steam Centre.

Our next running day

Passenger trains have now returned to the GCR, running every Saturday and Sunday, and on selected weekdays.

Pre-booking is required at present, to ensure social distancing onboard trains.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the railway as we progressively return to normal operation, as the national situation improves.
