72010 – Hengist

BRITISH RAILWAYS STANDARD CLASS 6 4-6-2 No.72010 "Hengist"

Great Central Railway plc and the Standard Steam Locomotive Company announced in 2012 that the Clan Project  72010 “Hengist” would relocate to GCR as its home base. Initially, the cab and smokebox have been displayed in GCR's yard at Quorn. However, for the main construction phase, the latter company envisage moving to a new base.

GCR has a proven track record in the restoration of Standard Class locomotives, for which reason the owning company would be welcomed back to make use of the twin track and high line speed for testing and commissioning, to declare the loco fit for service (including on the national rail network).
