Cromwell Pullman

The GCR announced its £240,000 project to build a six coach Pullman style train of carriages in 2010. Sponsored by Mike Gregory of Cromwell Tools, the train would be known as the Cromwell Pullman and was to be targeted at the Corporate Entertainment and Charter markets. It would provide a luxury dining experience befitting of the Pullman title.

Six BR Mk1 carriages were converted and renovated to Pullman standard, all but one in the workshops of the GCR itself.

At the heart of the carriage rake is a dedicated kitchen car RKB E1525 which was the only one to be renovated outside the GCR. Either side of this car are first class open saloons FOs E3092 and E3042 providing a total of 84 sumptuous seats in which to enjoy the gourmet meals. This allows stewards to serve guests from both ends of the kitchen car. Outside these dining coaches are two bar cars each with a lounge and bar area for pre and post dinner drinks. These utilised vehicles LFOs 1898 and 1899. Finally a full brake BG E81343, with an exhibition space, completes the rake.

The GCR received permission to call the train a Pullman Service and to use famous titled train names Master Cutler, Golden Arrow and The White Rose.

The hugely complex task which was only started in January, 2010 was completed in time for an official launch on the 22nd October, 2010 when Lord Faulkner of Worcester officiated before invited guests boarded the Pullman Service to be the first to experience the GCR's Pullman quality. It had been a mammoth effort by GCR staff, volunteers and contractors to finish the train to the highest possible standards in such a remarkably short time and a sincere thanks goes to all those involved.

The train is now available for hire providing the highest standards of luxury for the entertainment of guests. Company exhibitions may be held on the train before entertaining guests in the bars cars and then on to dinner while the train makes its stately progress through the Leicestershire countryside. The train may make stops over Swithland Reservoir or in the newly operational loops at Swithland Sidings.

A wide range of menus are available to suit all tastes and a full wine selection can be provided along with other drinks as required. Discuss all your requirements and arrangements with the GCR to ensure that perfect event.
