Friends of the Great Central Main Line (FoGCML)

The Friends of the Great Central Main Line (FoGCML) is our membership organisation, playing a vital role in delivering the ever-improving heritage experience that defines the Great Central Railway, Great Central Railway Nottingham and Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre (NTHC).

Our railway is largely run by dedicated volunteers all of whom are proud FoGCML members. From maintaining century-old bridges and track to restoring locomotives and carriages, running the railway is both complex and costly — and your support truly matters.

There are three types of memberships to choose from and by becoming a member, you’ll be helping to secure the future of the GCR.

In return for a modest subscription, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including:

Range of Benefits

Standard Friends

  • Four copies a year of the award-winning railway Main Line Magazine
  • Free access to GCR and GCRN stations and discounts on tickets (expect during specific special events as advertised).
  • The chance to support the railway and join in as a volunteer and become a working friend.

First Class Friends

  • Discounts for themselves and up to 5 others on First Class Dining Trains.
  • First Class Friends also get discounted travel for themselves and up to five guests on normal service trains (except during specific special events as advertised).

Working Friends

  • Discounts when booking First Class Dining Trains and ‘Drive A Loco’ experiences and, after a qualifying period, further concessions on travel tickets.
  • Discounts on Private Charter Trains & Group Dining

VOLUNTEERING – To qualify as a Working Friend you must be formally enrolled through the volunteer support team at and give at least the hourly equivalent of six full working days voluntary service to the railway each year

Friends and Working Friends memberships include all the benefits of a Standard membership.
