Plan Your Day at the Great Central Railway
A day at the Great Central Railway isn’t just a train ride — it’s a step back in time. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be surrounded by the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Britain’s railway heritage: traditional stations, historic carriages, and the unforgettable presence of steam and diesel locomotives in action.
Our trains run between beautifully restored, period-dressed stations across 8 miles of Leicestershire countryside, where the journey becomes part of the adventure — the whistle at departure, the rhythm of the coaches, and countryside views rolling past your window. You can enjoy the full line or break up your day by stopping to explore along the way, with each station offering its own charm and character.
Whether you’re visiting on a running day, joining us for a special event, or arriving for an enthusiast gala, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly volunteer team. As a not-for-profit heritage organisation, every ticket helps us preserve the railway for future generations to enjoy. Thank you for being part of that.
